                I grew up with a mother who baked quite often. I had two mortal kitchen enemies – vanilla extract and baking chocolate. They both smell wonderfully delicious, but taste like absolute mortal peril. These cookies were a lot like that first bite of baking chocolate that 6 year-old me had. Really bitter, really not good, really heartbreaking. Honey is the first ingredient, but the cocoa is unsweetened, and let me tell you – they create a really terrible harmony. Maybe other flavors are better?

                I’ve had some pretty good luck with protein cookies lately, so I was really interested in trying these little dudes. They’re smaller, almost like you’re eating a “real” mass-produced grocery store cookie out of the delicious rows in their cellophane packaging. Unfortunately, I hated the taste on these guys. They’re as sweet as a Quest bar, with that overwhelming weird protein powder taste and aftertaste. I suppose if you were STARVING and hadn’t had anything but bland chicken and unsalted green beans for a couple of weeks, these might hit the spot…but otherwise, take a pass.

                 There is A LOT going on with this cookie. In fact, I think that there are probably more mix-ins than actually cookie substance. It’s cookie-shaped, but as soon as you take a bite, it crumbles quite a bit, and ends up a lot like trail mix. It is tasty though, but if you’re in the mood for a cookie, you might not be too stoked to find yourself tucking in to a pile of seeds and raisins along with it. The nutrition is also a pretty heavy hitter, this is more of a meal cookie than a treat – 269 calories & 14g of fat, don’t take this little mound lightly.

                I’m kind of a sucker for cute packaging, and if you put a red heart on it, you’ll have my attention. If you put a red heart on a package that also contains the words “oatmeal” and “cookie”, I’m getting out my wallet. These Heavenly Hunks are very appropriately named, but they didn’t look quite like the picture on the package (most things don’t, I’m not complaining). They looked like weird little cylinders that made me think…”Oh man, have I overestimated the experience that I’m about to have?”

                Fear not, fellow munchers! The taste on these guys is truly heavenly indeed. They taste like an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie that has just a smidge of concentrated brown sugar in the middle of them. When I was scavenging for a treat the night after I had eaten them (the whole package, natch), I found myself wishing that I could just eat these again…that’s how you know you really liked something. Anyone who eats gluten-free…I don’t know why you’d buy any other cookie.

                Tiny little sweet balls of coconut sweetness, you’re just SO GOOD! Looking for a treat? Like coconut? Grab some of these Hail Merry Choco Macaroons. I’m not even a big fan of chocolate and I absolutely LOVED these. The bag I had contained 3 little macaroons – the perfect amount for when you really need to feel like you’ve had dessert. Even better, you can enjoy one here, one there, one later – just to squelch that nagging voice in your head that tries to send you to the office vending machine around 3 pm. They pack a great flavor and sweetness punch, so I’m really not being unrealistic when I say you CAN just eat one and feel pretty good about it, and that’s almost no calories at all. Plus…coconut is healthy, right? These are basically vegetables.

                Now, you may see down below that I say these taste like “vodka cookies,” and think, “Don’t threaten me with a good time!” I promise you that I am not actually, threatening you with a good time. These have such a weird flavor. The lemon is there, sure, but something else is also there making them taste like clear liquor. The ingredients seem pretty innocuous, so I don’t know if it’s just me being weird, or if I got a bad batch, but wow, there is no reason I could see ever eating these on purpose.

                Little cookies on the hillside, little cookies in my mouth. I think the thing that I liked best about these Ginny Minis was how…girthy they were. They’re like sweet little pucks of chocolate and cinnamon sweetness. This means when you open the bag, there they are! Whole tiny cookies, not a pile of worthless cookie dust that you can only dump on top of ice cream or yogurt. I would have liked these better without the chocolate, but that’s just me, being a weird chocolate hater. They are super sweet, and have a strong spice-presence. I feel like this would be the thing that you give your toddler when they have been SO GOOD all day. I feel like children would just FLIP for these little goodies.

                I know, I know…cookies…WHAT ARE THEY DOING HERE?? Making me smile, that’s what they’re doing here. Any company that takes the time to make a 100-calorie pack deserves a chance. These little darlings are so light and flaky, so lemon-y delicious, so YES PLEASE. They don’t mess around, they’re very sweet, and you won’t be under any kind of illusion that you’re eating a diet cookie. These are the real thing, and I am celebrating that fact. Instead of that donut in the break room, or that piece of birthday cake, eat a pack of these with wild abandon, and don’t feel guilty about it.

                I’m a grown up, so I can only review these from a grown up’s point of view. My point of view is that I loved these, and I also thought that they were super fun. What a great, simple idea! And come on, let’s be honest – not many of us grown ups can name the capital of all 50 states. You know you can’t. I looked at every single one of these before they went in my mouth. I had a blast. I also really liked the taste, and the shape/thinness of these. Sweeter than a cracker, not sweet enough to be a cookie, they were a pleasant surprise. I did not expect to be so enamored with these educational biscuits, but here I sit. Enamored.  And only 100 calories in the pack. Loves!

                What a tiny, delicious miracle this turned out to be! It’s oat-y, it’s sweet, it’s stinkin’ DELICIOUS. Small but mighty, this is unlike any granola bar that I have ever had. It’s pretty sticky, so I ate it poking out of its tiny wrapper. I was very surprised at how filling this bar was for its size, but you will not be disappointed. It reminded me more of a cookie than a granola bar, which tend to be harder and drier. The chocolate is more of an undertone, which suits me just fine. This looks to me to be a small company offering various concoctions depending on ingredient availability; I definitely recommend checking their website regularly to see what they’ve cooked up!

                Raw stuff turned into other stuff is usually gross. It just is. I applaud those who can subsist off of a raw diet, but I will never be one of those people. I was expecting these cookies to taste like either dates or seeds, because that’s what all raw stuff tastes like. BUT WAIT. There must also be some raw sorcery in these Emmy’s Chocolate Chip Macaroons, because ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…they are wicked good. I can honestly say that I would rather eat these than a traditional, cooked macaroon – which are almost always overcooked and dry to me. Just 100 calories per little cookie puck, toss a pack of these in your desk drawer for that 3pm pick me up!
