Review - Good Kid Bar

Brand:  Good Kid Bar
Flavor:  Apple Cinnamon
Where to get it: here @ goodkidfoods.com

I’ve tried a few nut-free bars now that are created specifically for kids with nut allergies, and also for school-safeness, I assume, and none of them are very good. I’m not really getting the correlation of how nuts have to be present in a granola or snack bar to make it taste good, but apparently that is the case. This is another example of a very meh nut-free bar. Texture…just sort of “there”. Taste…alright, but has a weird aftertaste that I have no idea how to place. There are just too many other bars to choose from to choose this one, sadly.

Review - Laughing Giraffe Organics Snakarola

Brand:  Laughing Giraffe Organics
Flavor:  Curry Cashew Snakarola
Where to get it: here @ TheLaughingGiraffe.com

Now we’re having fun! It’s not really a granola, I’d call this more of a snack mix. Now that I’ve written this out, I’m seeing why they call it “Snackarola”. Well, I’m glad we got that all worked out! The pieces are big-ish, you can just fish them out of the bag with your fingers and pop them right into your mouth, as opposed to doing the “pour & dump” that you’d have to do when eating granola straight from the bag. The flavor is a slightly sweet curry, with just the slightest hint of heat in the back of your throat once you’ve swallowed your bite. If you’re a curry-phile, you’re probably going to demolish this bag in one sitting, pretty easily. I’m only so-so on curry, so I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for some other flavors of this, but the quality and desirability of this mix is quite obvious, even to me. Snack on!

Review - R Bar

Brand:  Well Rounded Snacks
Flavor:  PB & J R Bar
Where to get it: here @ RBarEnergy.com

Organic dates, organic raisins, organic peanuts. That’s it. That’s what you’re getting with this bar. I happen to really like all three of those components, so this bar was a hit with me. If you don’t like raisins, you will certainly not like this bar. I’m not too sure about the “PB & J” claim here…maybe R Bites was trying to take the angle that the raisins equate to grape jelly? Whatever the angle, it’s not really working out that way; this tastes nothing like a PB & J anything. That doesn’t mean it’s not good, though. I must confess that I was missing the salt in a big way, since this is basically trail mix all smooshed into a puck. However, I will admit that not everyone is as debased as I, and this is certainly a more healthy option without salt in it.

Review - FitMiss Vanilla Chai Protein Shake

Brand:  FitMiss
Flavor:  Vanilla Chai Protein Shake
Where to get it: here @ FitMiss.com

I’m always leery about trying a new protein powder, especially when it’s one that I’m going to review, because I always try to drink them “clean” – just powder and unsweetened almond milk. Even my favorite protein powder really benefits from some PB2 and Splenda most of the time, or at least a banana, but this one really doesn’t need anything added to it. I didn’t get a strong, spicy chai flavor from this, but it was still really tasty. It had a great, true vanilla taste, and at 90 calories and 3 grams of carbs, you can pretty much have one of these whenever you want, even a couple times a day. If your tummy is good with whey protein, FitMiss is definitely a great option.

Review - Gopal's Rawma Bar

Brand:  Gopal’s
Flavor:  Apple Delicious Rawma Bar
Where to get it: here @ GopalsHealthFoods.com

I really did like the texture of this bar quite a bit. Just a little crumbly, but still (sorry) moist (sorry). Walnuts aren’t my favorite, so if you love walnuts (like my person), you will really enjoy this bar, I suspect. The apple definitely takes a backseat to the walnut flavor, so don’t you go thinking that this is a fruit bar. As best as I can describe it, this is a nut bar with the texture of a fruit bar, and that’s a pretty cool thing. The ingredients are also a “pretty cool thing,” look at all the natural goodness. No junk in this trunk. (I am so, so sorry.)

Review - Bubba's Fine Foods Chipotle Honey BBQ Snack Mix

Brand:  Bubba’s Fine Foods
Flavor:  Chipotle Honey BBQ
Where to get it:  here @ BubbasFoods.com

I don’t really like BBQ sauce, and I definitely don’t like banana chips…but I really did like these munchies quite a bit! I’m really learning that I shouldn’t just a snack by its ingredients unless it contains mint (I’m allergic). This has a very, very mild BBQ flavor, and zero chipotle heat. It’s actually got closer to a much nicer savory tomato flavor, and the banana flavor is negated completely. The banana chips in here are actually a great wonder to me - I was just munching away on them like I don’t hate banana chips, which I never in a million years would have imagined. Super creative, super straightforward ingredients, super good snack.

Review - Attune Foods Probiotic Chocolate Bar

Brand:  Attune Foods
Flavor:  Probiotic Chocolate Bar
Where to get it: here @ VitaCost.com

I haven’t done a lot of research about probiotics and the like, but from my uneducated standpoint, chocolate with them has to be more nutritionally useful than chocolate without them, right? That’s what I’m going with anyway. Only problem is…this isn’t very good chocolate. Do the probiotics affect the taste? I have no idea. If you’re a die-hard probiotics person (is that a thing?), then I am sure this bar is more convenient, and more enjoyable, than trying to eat six cups of yogurt in a day. If you’re looking for some good chocolate that you haven’t tried before, this probably isn’t it.

Review - Zing Bar

Brand:  Zing Bar
Flavor:  Almond Blueberry
Where to get it: here @ ZingBars.com

A bar is a bar is a bar…how to choose? If this Zing bar is available in your pile of choices, I highly recommend that you give it a go. This bar has real blueberry taste, like when you mix fresh blueberries into pancake batter. The almonds mellow out the grains and create a really great mix in this bar. It’s also uncrushable, so it’s great on the go to throw in a purse or backpack – especially if you’re like me, and bars roll around in your purse for a couple weeks before you remember that they’re there, usually smashed into oblivion.
